unrecognized devices

Postby it@amobee.com » Mon Nov 04, 2013 12:57 am

Hi,

I have this bunch of user agents we can't recognize. I've sampled some on the wurfl site in order to verify they are not recognized there either. Could you please check them out and see if they can be added to the wurfl snapshot xml?

thanks,

Thank you for your message. We will need to analyze this and so some cross checking, but my first impression is that something is seriously wrong with this UAs.

Can you confirm that they come from a single carrier? some of these UAs smell MetroPCS (a US carrier), but still different enough that I suspect these are not the original UAs sent from the device.

Thanks

Hi,

The UAs you've posted seem to have been modified by some tool, prepending the device's brand name and model name to the UA. So the UAs from your post are in the form of Brand_Name Model_Name<tab><>UA.

Here's an example of this discrepancy:
UA from your post:
Samsung S390 SAMSUNG-SGH-S390G[TF359782040000160004949617865274278] NetFront/4.2 SMM-MMS/1.2.0 profile/MIDP-2.1 configuration/CLDC-1.1
UA from our logs:
SAMSUNG-SGH-S390G/S390UD[TF359782043859743486919116063670675] NetFront/4.2 SMM-MMS/1.2.0 profile/MIDP-2.1 configuration/CLDC-1.1

Cheers!

All of these uas came from a single carrier. As far as I know, it is possible that the carrier alters its devices uas.

Can you tell us what the Carrier is? is it MetroPCS?

Also, we are not observing the same UAs from anywhere else.

feel free to email us at wurfldb#scientiamobile.com with more info.

Thanks
