Detection of Mail Clients

I have this HTTP request, I expected this, but WURFL is returning that. Please provide enough data to reproduce the problem.

Detection of Mail Clients

Postby ecircle » Tue Nov 19, 2013 10:45 am

Hi,

we'd like to detect not only the device, but also the application, especially if an email client (e.g. Outlook, Thunderbird) or email app (e.g. iPhone mail app or Android mail app) was used. Is Wurfl/Scientia able to detect them?

Here are some examples of user agent strings sent by email clients when images are rendered:

Outlook: Mozilla/4.0 (compatible; MSIE 7.0; Windows NT 6.1; Win64; x64; Trident/5.0; .NET CLR 2.0.50727; SLCC2; .NET CLR 3.5.30729; .NET CLR 3.0.30729; Media Center PC 6.0; .NET4.0C; Tablet PC 2.0; InfoPath.3; Zune 4.7; Microsoft Outlook 14.0.6117; ms-office; MSOffice 14)

Thunderbird: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 5.1; rv:7.0) Gecko/20110817 Thunderbird/7.0

iPhone mail app: Mozilla/5.0 (iPhone; U; CPU iPhone OS 3_1_3 like Mac OS X; en) AppleWebKit/528.18 (KHTML, like Gecko)

Thanks,
Stefan

Hi Stefan,

Thank you for your post. We do already detect newer versions of Thunderbird. We are currently looking into detecting other desktop and applications like iPhone's mail.app and Outlook and we should have something for you soon in a newer version of the WURFL API. Please stay tuned.

Cheers!

Thank you for the answer, Sriram.

This capability is very important for us. Can you tell me when the newer version will be available?

Thanks
Michael

Hi Michael,

We definitely value our customers' requests and work with them to incorporate their requests in our API/Data ASAP. That said, I do not have an ETA for you yet; however, if you prefer, I can leave a comment here/send you an email when we do have one.

Thanks and cheers!
