Chirag,

Our WURFL.js Business Edition offering will allow you to detect specific iOS models along with the physical screen height/width. Would a javascript solution work for your use case?

Thank you,

Elliot

Chirag,

Are you testing using a physical device or a simulator? Are you able to provide me with the User Agent of the iPad that is not being detected?

Thank you,

Elliot

Hello Elliot, thanks for replying.

The application is as explained earlier made for showing a specific image in correctly physical dimensions using web browsers on various of devices. It works on most devices, but I am having trouble with some Apple products, here are my findings so far tested on physical devices:

- These devices have been tested and confirmed okay: iPad1, iPad2, all iPhones.
- Devices having problems with detection of correctly physical height and width: iPad mini, iPad Air, iPad 3+

i added User Agent which is not detect
User Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (iPad; CPU OS 8_1_2 like Mac OS X) AppleWebKit/600.1.4 (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/8.0 Mobile/12B440 Safari/600.1.4

Chirag,

Are you able to submit these devices to https://db.scientiamobile.com/h so that we can determine the root cause of the issue?

Thank you,

Elliot

@Elliotfehr and chiragtaraviya.

I am having the same detection issues using newer iPads. Is there any solution, or is it abandon?

David,

We are still working to improve detection of iPad devices, however Apple has gone to great lengths to mask the underlying device information, which makes it very difficult to determine the iPad model.

Elliot

Elliot, thanks for your fast reply.

I have some more questions, I see that it has gone six months since you started looking into the problem, any eta? Can you update us in more details on the progress?

Could not find any information which confirms your statement, why would Apple want to mask their device information? It does not make sense for me that it detects iPhone 6 correctly, this is a much newer device than several of the iPads which fails the detection.

David,

Detecting the different iPad models is more complex than iPhone models since many of the different versions of the iPad use very similar hardware (specifically screen dimensions and processors).

Unlike other manufacturers, Apple has chosen to only present the iOS model in the HTTP headers as opposed to providing the underlying device information.

I will let you know as soon as we have an update on this issue.

Thank you,

Elliot
