Hi,
Below are 2 user agents which are coming from an Edge browser:
Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 10.0; Win64; x64) AppleWebKit/537.36 (KHTML, like Gecko) Chrome/51.0.2704.79 Safari/537.36 Edge/14.14393
mozilla/5.0 (windows nt 10.0; win64; x64) applewebkit/537.36 (khtml, like gecko) chrome/51.0.2704.79 safari/537.36 edge/14.14393
When I test this on the WURFL site which uses WURFL PHP API 1.8.1.0 I get the below results
http://tools.scientiamobile.com/?user-a ... 2F14.14393
http://tools.scientiamobile.com/?user-a ... 2F14.14393
I the first case I get Generic browser, whereas in the second case there is no result.
As per a previous post: https://www.scientiamobile.com/forum/vi ... ?f=4&t=681
I should at least get Internet Explorer Edge Mode.
Can someone please helpout
Wurfl unable to pick Edge browser
Re: Wurfl unable to pick Edge browser
Hi Siddharth,
I've spoken with my mobile data team and can confirm to you that the Edge 14 browser will be detected in the next API release. Also, do note that, unless there was a typo, the second user agent string appears to be invalid as the "m" in "mozilla" needs to be capitalized.
Let me know if there is anything else we can assist you with.
Thanks,
Aaron

Re: Wurfl unable to pick Edge browser
Hi Aaron,
Thanks for the quick response. I have 2 follow up questions.
1) This user agent is from the edge browser on my PC. When you say the Mobile Data Team its applicable for browser UAS also right?
2) Can you provide an approximate ETA for the next API release?
Also, Below is the user agent we have been using, which is getting detected as Chrome as of now, what I shared earlier was incorrect:
mozilla/5.0 (windows nt 10.0; win64; x64) applewebkit/537.36 (khtml, like gecko) chrome/51.0.2704.79 safari/537.36 edge/14.14393|5.0 (Windows NT 10.0; Win64; x64) AppleWebKit/537.36 (KHTML, like Gecko) Chrome/51.0.2704.79 Safari/537.36 Edge/14.14393|Win32
Result: http://tools.scientiamobile.com/?user-a ... 93%7CWin32
Can you please get this checked once.
Lastly, as per https://www.scientiamobile.com/forum/vi ... ?f=4&t=681, shouldn't I get Internet Explorer Edge Mode for now?
Thanks,
Siddharth

Re: Wurfl unable to pick Edge browser
Hi Siddharth,
The Edge browser from your PC will be detected properly upon the next API release. As far as an ETA goes, while I cannot guarantee an exact date at the moment, it is highly likely the next release will be available around late November to early December. If you would like to receive a notification of the release by email, please register to our mailing list here:
http://scientiamobile.us4.list-manage.c ... 3a55f26706
The provided user agent string is invalid and is therefore returning values you are not expecting.
As for the forum post you refer to, it is over a year old and since then, we no longer identify Edge browsers as Internet Explorer - they are now correctly picked up as Edge.
Hope that answered your questions. Let me know if there is anything else I can assist you with.
Regards,
Aaron

Re: Wurfl unable to pick Edge browser
Hi Aaron,
Thanks again for the prompt response. Just one last thing, I am a little confused.
You are saying that the Edge browser from PC will be detected properly upon the next API release. At the end of the last comment you also said that we no longer identify Edge browsers as Internet Explorer - they are now correctly picked up as Edge. So why is my UAS not getting detected as edge, if you people already detect it? Is it that the edge browser from PC doesn't get picked up now?
Thanks,
Siddharth

Re: Wurfl unable to pick Edge browser
Hi Siddharth,
To clarify, the device ID for the Edge 14 browser will be conclusively matched to msie_14 - Microsoft Edge () as opposed to a generic web browser.
However, at the moment, the advertised_browser and advertised_browser_version capabilities will determine from the information provided in the user agent string that the browser is Edge 14.
Thanks,
Aaron

Hi Siddharth,
Just wanted to give you a heads up that API v1.8.2 is now available in your File Manager for download. Give it a try and let me know if you have any questions or concerns.
Thanks,
Aaron
