WURFL Data Update for Desktop CFNetworks and Firefox Mobile for Android 10+ User-Agents

Postby aaronp » Wed Oct 07, 2020 8:33 am

Dear Customer,

Please note that we are improving our WURFL data in an update of the wurfl.xml snapshot to be released on Sunday, November 8th 2020. It will contain two changes that may impact your operations.
  • WURFL's “mobile_browser” capability will now return "CFNetwork App" instead of "Safari" for all CFNetwork desktop (Mac OS X and macOS) user-agents. Since user-agents from apps that use the CFNetwork framework do not use Safari, the new return value of “CFNetwork App” is more accurate.
  • WURFL’s “is_smartphone” virtual capability will now return true instead of false for all Firefox Mobile for Android 10 and above user-agents. Firefox Mobile for Android sends a generic user-agent without model information which makes it a non-smartphone device by default. Considering that most devices that run Firefox Mobile for Android 10 and above are likely to be smartphones (according to our definition: https://www.scientiamobile.com/detect-s ... ic-phones/), we are making the change to consider all user-agents from Firefox mobile for Android on versions 10 and above as smartphones.
If you have enabled automatic wurfl.xml updates, no further action from your end is necessary to receive the new detection logic.
If you do not use wurfl-updater, you can update your wurfl.xml snapshot manually by logging into your customer
vault and downloading the wurfl.xml through your personal access token.

If you have questions about this change, or require more information, please email our Customer Support team at: support@scientiamobile.com and we will be happy to assist you.

Sincerely,

ScientiaMobile Customer Support Team
