Not picking up Nexus 5 as a device etc...

Postby chum63 » Fri Nov 08, 2013 11:15 am

The user agent looks like this:

Mozilla/5.0 (Linux; Android 4.4; Nexus 5 Build/KRT16M) AppleWebKit/537.36 (KHTML, like Gecko) Chrome/30.0.1599.105 Mobile Safari/537.36

I have tried on the local and cloud and same result.

Regards, Chris.

We cannot reproduce the problem. According to tools.scientiamobile.com the device is correctly recognized:

http://bit.ly/1gwveZf

can you confirm wurfl.xml and API versions?

thanks

Hi Chris,

To add to our reply above, we added the Nexus 5 user-agent last week and should have come out in the last weekend's WURFL.xml release. If you are a customer, please make sure you are on the latest WURFL.xml snapshot available for your account. This device should also be detected on the WURFL Cloud with the next data refresh (which should happen shortly).

Thanks and cheers!

Hi - I am not licensed for for the local library, but am for the cloud. So I will wait for the cloud. If possible to let me know when it there in the cloud I will try it. I seem to remember the cloud gets refreshed on a Sunday, but might be wrong.

Cheers, Chris.

Hi Chris,

The cloud has been updated just now in all regions, now if I can only convince Google to ship my Nexus 5 already!

Hi,

Do we need to use a licensed API to get the details of device properties. I am using the freely available WURFL database (xml file: wurfl-2.3.5.xml), and Java API (wurfl-1.4.4.3.jar). I am facing the same problem that it does not detect the Nexus5. Using the API it gives me below output.

Device Capabilities are:
Device UA: DO_NOT_MATCH_GENERIC_ANDROID
Device: generic_android

picture_directdownload_size_limit 0
ringtone_directdownload_size_limit 0
resolution_width 240
resolution_height 320

I hope you realize that when you say "freely available", the AGPL license demands that you open soruce the complete code base of your application.
In fact, from a licensing perspective, there is no difference between API 1.4 and API 1.5

Edit: As of 7/25/2016 ScientiaMobile no longer uses AGPL or any other Open Source licensing. Please refer to http://www.scientiamobile.com/page/get- ... elease-1-8 for more information or contact sales

Hi Anil,

To add to our post above, the "free" WURFL.xml snapshots hosted on SourceForge are only updated periodically. Commercial licensees have access to weekly WURFL.xml snapshots that contain the newest WURFL data. If you would like to enquire about becoming a licensee, please contact us here and our sales team will get in touch with you.

Please note that you are using an older version of the WURFL Java API. If you upgrade to the newest release(1.5.x.x), you should get a better detection result (Generic Android 4.4 as opposed to Generic Android).

Thanks and cheers!

Thanks Sriram,

Ok, so I will pick up the latest release of the Java API; however the WURFL.xml available on sourceforgenet still do not have the records for Nexus5 (I did a grep on the file). So using latest Java API may still not be sufficient.

As you clarified, the updates are periodic, it may take some more time to get the latest device releases/updates. Am I correct? I will check with my team here if we can go for a commercial version or not. Thanks for your clarifications.

Going commercial is not the end of the world.

WURFL has value because a team of people behind it is maintaining it on a regular basis.

thanks
