Wrong mobile device detection

Postby nattaponv » Tue Dec 03, 2013 10:19 pm

Hi,

I use defualt browser on samsung galaxy s2 to access our apache web server
Galaxy s2 have detail as below

model number: GT-I9100T
android version: 4.1.2
Baseband version: I9100TDCLSD
kernel: 3.0.31-1155671 se.infra@sep-95#3 smp preempt
Build Number: JZ054K.I9100TDCLSD

We grab user agent string from apache log and submitted on
"http://wurfl.sourceforge.net/"

Below is user agent string from apache log
Mozilla/5.0 (Linux; U; Android 4.1.2; en-us; GT-I9100T Build/JZO54K) AppleWebKit/534.30 (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/4.0 Mobile Safari/534.30

Somehow it detected as "generic web browser" instead of "galaxy s2"
Do this cause from this device was upgrade to recent android version (4.1.2)
Or do I need to somehow reformat user agent string to wurfl format/style before submit on search
or Samsung galaxy s2 was not include in wurfl database ?

Do I miss something , Please advice

Are you sure you are not running the browser in Desktop View Mode?

Hi Nattapon,

I have added the User-Agent for your device on Android 4.1 to WURFL and it should be perfectly detected after the next WURFL.xml snapshot.

That said, I am unable to reproduce the behavior you encountered, where your device was classified as a "Generic Web Browser". I manually put in your User-Agent in the WURFL test tool and it came out as "Generic Android 4.1" as you can see here. I have a feeling that you may have inadvertently used your desktop's User-Agent in the tool, which resulted in the "Generic Web Browser" detection.

In any case, please try again on this website tomorrow and let us know if you still experience any issues with detecting your device.

Thanks and cheers!

Hi Nattapon,

For the stock Android browser, only selecting the "Desktop" view option will send a desktop User-Agent. At all other times, you'll send something like this(which is the actual mobile User-Agent):

Code: Select all

Mozilla/5.0 (Linux; U; Android 4.1.2; en-us; GT-I9100T Build/JZO54K) AppleWebKit/534.30 (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/4.0 Mobile Safari/534.30
Cheers!
