Toshiba Encore WT8-A-102 with Microsoft Windows 8.1

Hi there,

I have a Toshiba tablet with Microsoft Windows 8.1. The IE browser is seen as a "generic web browser" and the API doesn't detect that it's a wireless device.

User agent is Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 6.3; Trident/7.0; Touch; rv:11.0) like Gecko

Is it possible to add it?

Regards,
Alexandra

Alexandra,

Currently this user agent is not able to be detected because it does not deliver any hardware information along with the user agent string and is running on windows 8.1, which is causing it to be recognized as a desktop.

Thank you,

Elliot

Hi Elliot,

There is a difference in the user agent between touch devices and desktop, if we were to trust Microsoft :). From what I read here: http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library ... s.85).aspx, the "Touch" string is added to the user agent for touch devices. It's true that it doesn't offer any information about the tablet itself, but can you detect in this case that it's a wireless device?

Btw, are Nokia Lumia devices identified properly (http://developer.nokia.com/community/wi ... ia_devices)? I don't have a Nokia phone so I wasn't able to test this.

Regards,
Alexandra

Alexandra,

The presence of the "Touch" token does not indicate that the User-Agent (UA) is from a wireless device. This is because, the "Touch" token is generated if a touch digitizer is present. This means that an All-In-One PC like this one, that has a touch screen, will also generate the "Touch" token in the UA. That said, we are continually looking at avenues to workaround this issue, so please stay tuned.

WURFL has been detecting Windows Phone devices for a while now, as you can see here. Please do let us know if you are experiencing any specific issues with Windows Phone detection and we'll be more than happy to help you out.

Thank you,
