IE user-agent with "AOL" attribute wrong detected

Postby mimmi » Sun Jul 24, 2011 6:47 am

I found a lot of user agents in my logs who looks like IE, but are detected as generic web browser (id: generic_web_browser). See below for some examples..

I am using the PHP API 1.3.1.
It looks to me that the word "AOL" causes this.
Should this be the correct behavior?

In my Opinion AOL just rebranded the IE wich has no effect how the browser rendes a website.

Mozilla/4.0 (compatible; MSIE 7.0; AOL 10.1; AOLBuild 2.1.28.1; brand=aol; Windows NT 6.0; Trident/5.0; SLCC1; .NET CLR 2.0.50727; Media Center PC 5.0; .NET CLR 3.5.30729; .NET CLR 3.0.30729; OfficeLiveConnector.1.5; OfficeLivePatch.1.3; .NET4.0C)
Mozilla/4.0 (compatible; MSIE 7.0; AOL 9.0; Windows NT 5.1; Trident/4.0; SV1; .NET CLR 2.0.50727; .NET CLR 3.0.4506.2152; .NET CLR 3.5.30729; msn OptimizedIE8;DEDE)

with kind regards

I'm using the PHP API 1.3.1 with wurfl.xml from 2011-07-13

Please note that our priority is accurate detection of mobile devices. More accurate detection of desktop browsers is on our roadmap, but at this point we are not focusing much attention on them.
